Buildings History –

The building is named after the founder of Waxahachie, Emory W. Rogers.

Emory W. Rogers originally built a log cabin for himself in 1847 where the hotel currently stands.

Mr. Rogers then replaced his log cabin in 1856, replacing it with a two story hotel.

The 1856 hotel was sadly destroyed in a fire in 1881.

The Waxahachie Real Estate & Bldg. Association built a new two story hotel to replace the piece of Waxahachie history but it oddly burned down as well in 1911.

In 1912 Architect C. D. Hill designed the current building which still stands today.

The current building is said to be “Absolutely Fire Proof". And when opened boosted a rooftop garden.

The building also once held a pool in the basement built for The White Sox who frequented the hotel.

Famous guests of the past:

Bonnie & Clyde **FUN FACT: Lindsay is a distant relative of Clyde Barrow!**

Frank Sinatra

The White sox

Detroit Tigers during 1916-1917

Cincinnati Reds in 1919

Chicago White Sox in 1921

**Also scenes from the 1983 movie Places in the Heart were filmed at the hotel

Locations Status: Active-The building is no longer utilized as a hotel. Most rooms have been leased as business suites.

Access: 24 Hours

Within the original building:

Located on entry level-

  • Toshio's Taste of Japan

  • Toshio's Sushi Bar

  • Klopfer Haus German Restaurant

  • The Underground Sports Bar

  • The Rogers Hotel Barbershop

  • The Cotton Gin Events Center

Reported Hauntings:

It is said that a little girl who once drowned in the basement pool still haunts the hotel.

Supposedly the son of the manager of the hotel in the early 1900s committed suicide in the elevator shaft. (The original elevator and shaft still remain from 1912).

And there is word that room 409 is haunted and is currently for lease :)

Our Visit:

Upon arriving at the hotel we parked in the parking lot to the right (if facing the entrance).

We automatically noticed the FOR LEASE banner draped off the side of the building.

The hotel has a past of various owners which is note worthy.

When doing research on this location prior to our visit individuals had stated that venturing beyond the first floor was difficult but we did not encounter this until the no access gate leading to the 5th floor (see below).

After glancing about the entry level we then decided to go to the basement first.

The stairs to the basement are on your left when you enter the building, pointing to the restrooms down below.

Everything was closed off, minus the bathrooms of course. The energy was heavy in the basement.

We then went back up to the ground floor and simply walked up the stairs to the next level.

After walking up the marble steps you reach the mezzanine. (see photo below)

In the 1900s the hotels orchestra would play on this mezzanine.

From the mezzanine you continue on up to the 2nd floor which is now office suites rented out to various companies.

Even though quite a few suites have been accommodated by various entrepreneurs there was still an ominous feeling the higher we went in the hotel.

This could be because of the haunting of the 4th floor , room 409 which is the last accessible floor.

After walking the corridor of each level of the hotel we had access to, we began our trip back down the stairs.

While the only thing The L Files experienced while at The Rogers Hotel was a definite other worldly energy, the hotel and building in itself are breathtaking!

You immediately feel as though you have stepped back in time upon entering the hotel!

Maybe that's why a few spirits have stayed behind :)

Lauren's thoughts:

First and foremost the building in general is gorgeous! So much of the original building has been preserved which adds to the feel of history and decadence the hotel has offered through the years. While I did not catch any evidence the energy and history in that building is palpable in the basement area, and as you go up in stories. I would for sure jump at the opportunity to investigate at night!

Lindsay's thoughts:

I loved the building; it was amazing. I loved that the hotel has been transformed into a place where small businesses can rent out rooms. Nothing really stuck out at me except for the smell on the third floor. The smell and the energy completely bombard you. The air was thick and the smell was pretty musty. Obviously I wanted to explore the floor where there was no access, but my yang brought me down and returned me back to reality (lol. Love you, Lauren.) I'd totally stay in that place. I LOVED the elevators.

Unfortunately, no EVP or evidence was caught.

The L Files wish to express our complete and most utter respect for every location we visit. We strive to provide like minded individuals with the history, present day status, and paranormal activity/occurrences which have/do occur on the properties.
